Biography
Kato Rempel's story is one of daring choices, cultural immersion, and a lifelong commitment to capturing beauty with a stroke of her brush.
Her story begins in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Her early 20s and 30s found her in the world of digital graphic design, a time when computers were taking over and creativity was sparking new frontiers. With fourteen years under her belt in this industry, she decided it was time for a move.
Casting aside convention, Kato went with her family on an exhilarating journey to South East Asia, where cultures collided and colours seemed to be more vibrant. Sri Lanka became her classroom, where she dove into foreign customs, art, and architectural design.
Amidst these adventures, Kato found a new passion - oil painting. With dedication and discipline, she honed her skills and after 5 years abroad, returned to Canada and settled in Kelowna, BC. Her artistic journey took a deeper plunge, guided by mentors, Kristy Gordon and Jerry Markham, who shared their wisdom.
After a decade of thriving in the Western Canadian art market, she has now ventured south to delve deeper into her artistic journey. In 2023, Kato embarked on an exciting new chapter in Mexico. There, amid the vibrant hues of culture and life, she is unfurling the canvas of her dreams—an art retreat tailored for passionate artists to visit and work. In San Miguel de Allende, she has the luxury of time and the opportunity to explore further into experimental realms of her art.
Kato is a Senior Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists.
